*Casey* Thoughts
April 22, 2008
Why Casey Had to Die is no longer a baby but a toddler. However, two new versions are still in the pregnancy stage. This Sept., Five Star, my publisher, is releasing the large print editon of the book. This will be my first large print edition. I'm so excited about this upcoming event--and we're going from big to small! Worldwide Mysteries, an imprint of Harlequein, is releasing the mass paperback edition of Why Casey Had to Die. That's due out in Feb. 09.
But I still remember the release of my first hard cover. How did that make me feel? Thruthfully? As nervous as an alien watching Men in Black. My inquiring mind wondered if there would be enough people who would be willing to pay the price of a hard cover. I imagine the answer is yes, as now it's going to the large print and mass paperback editions. That wouldn't have happened without your support. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. Those of you who already purchased Why Casey Had to Die or plan to purchase it, God bless you.
But regardless of sales, writing the book proved to be a blast. First, it's...

Death in Pride on Our Work
March 7, 2008
I'm fumming. People no longer take pride in their work as they once did. Here's a personal example from my own experience. On July 30, 2004, my husband and I purchased a new Coachmen 2490 Freelander. Ever since then, we’ve encountered serious problems with the motor home. After only three years of having the motor home, the cabinets are collapsing. The pantry cabinet door is impossible to open because of the depression of the countertop and for the same reason, the microwave won’t open. The wood on the sides of the cabinets has cracked due to the added pressure.
We took the camper to our insurance company and to a repair shop. Both stated that the are a result of faulty construction. We’ve always taken good care of our motor homes and based on the previous twelve years of dealing with other brand name motor homes we’ve had, we’ve never encountered any of these problems even though the motor homes were older than this one.
We’ve contacted Coachmen and they said the camper has a one year warranty so they won’t do anything about it. We feel that a company should be proud of its name and...

Questions for readers
January 29, 2008
Question for ReadersIf an author wants to sell books, he’s got to hassle. Gone are the days when all that the writers had to do was create that wonderful plot and not worry about selling the books. Now-a-days, an author can write the best book but if there’s no promotion behind it, the book will fade into oblivion and that creates a problem. Publishers see this person’s poor selling record and will not publish any future books, no matter how well written.
At a recent conference, I overheard a group of readers discussing a very well known mystery author. She’s an award winning author and a top seller with a series that’s well known. Yet this group of readers refuse to buy any of her future books because they found out that she’s “such a Sales Guru.”
Unfortunately, readers who consider the authors to be Sales Gurus influence others into not purchasing any of So-and-So’s books. These folks feel that an author’s job is to write, not to sell the books.
Other readers don’t seem to mind. They understand the importance of promotion, but even so, some still shy away from the authors who openly promote their books.
The...

A Big Thanks
January 8, 2008
I would like my first blog entry to be a thank you to all of my friends I’ve met through writing. The nicest part of being an author is the role each of you has played in my life. As an author, I have been able to connect with people I would never have met otherwise. It has been a joy getting to know all of you. It doesn’t matter if you’re fellow authors, readers, booksellers, reviewers, or any others who make up this wonderful, crazy world of writing. Thank you very much for your support.
Something magical pops up when I travel and know there’ll be people to visit along the way. Sometimes we share a meal together. Other times, we’re there for a longer stay. Some of my best memories include spending time with my friends in Alaska or Hawaii or California, Kentucky, Florida, Wisconsin . . . the list goes on and on.
The most unique thing about the mystery world is that it’s made up of some of the nicest and caring people. When one of us is down, we reach out and indelibly someone is always willing to help. This reminds me...
